Hollow

Let me be frank let me be true
From my cap to my shoe
I have just grown in size
Do you think I am wise?

You better ask my friends and foes
They will tell you about my woes
The whole class nods I just stare
The whole class works I just glare

Then I suffer for this deed
That's when help I do need
People just pass comments
Good or bad it all depends

A few good guys are exception to this
As I work what wrong right is
They explain it to me no details missed
They make me feel much more eased

I curse my fate I wear a frown
I wanted to be king and own the crown
In whatever field I was to go
But that was just not possible you know

I experience failure in my field
Forget a king I am a soldier with no shield
What's the use in living then
When money matters more than men!

The Story Behind

Hollow for me will always be something more than a poem. I consider it to be my best effort yet. But frankly speaking when I wrote the poem I never wrote it thinking this is one of the best poems I have written.

In fact the memories of Hollow take me back to the depression I was going through a few months back when I was doing my first year engineering. Each and every word I wrote was a bitter truth.

It was a no way out situation for me then. Then one day when the frustration grew to become nearly intolerable I took my book and just begun writing random lines on my being a complete loser and my failures as an engineering student.

And that's when it struck me that a poem was the best path to bring out my angst in me so that the whole world should know I am the greatest loser around.

Then the next 20-25 minutes saw what would be the perfect description of my mindset then.

Hollow was complete and I felt better inside because that day I knew that for me poems were the best outlet for my hidden inner feelings.

Fortunately this is a thing of the past and I am out of that terrible depression. Still this poem will always be one of my favourites as it is the one complimented the most by my family and my friends alike.
