A Cuckoo's Egg

It got no warmth but felt the heat
Under the other bird's heavy feet

The cuckoo's egg lay still and calm
On a tree amidst the farm

The birds gave it love and all
Awaiting the nature's call

Waiting for the egg to crack
Amidst a huge whitish pack

Days passed on in silent slumber
Rains came in so came thunder

But the cuckoo's egg lay very still
It looked so very dead until

It heard a very happy song
The cuckoo singing all along

The Story Behind

A cuckoo is a bird that is known for its laziness (and of course its singing).

It lays it eggs in other birds' nest not caring about their fate at all.

This poem describes the sad fate of this poor egg who lives off others albeit he is partially dead. Its only his mother's voice that can revive him of his illness.
