I had meant to draw a circle
Full round and complete
I cut it into arcs many
Neither ends could meet
I look at the rectangle
And I envy the square
Its sides perfect and normal
When I have none to spare
I laugh at the trapezium
It just resembles me
Far from being perfect
But a 'closed' figure I see
And then I look at myself
Open and incomplete
Lines converge and diverge
But nothing very concrete
Will I be open for my life?
Such thoughts sadden me
I will go the full circle someday
Cause that's life you see
The Story Behind
This is a funny little poem. I dedicate it to my sister as she came up with the idea while she was tackling geometry.
Life is all about going up and down but finally coming back to your roots. Its about coming back and completing the full circle i.e. from where you started. This poem says something similar to that.
Also here the closed figure means a person leading a very conventional life in the boundary of a particular space.
The poet here feels sorry for and at the same time is jealous of people who can live life in that fashion. However he wishes to go the full circle himself someday.
