You are so sweet
From head to feet
You never fight
You are so polite
You look so sane
Wild things you refrain
You've got it all
But you never brawl
You helped me through
When my times were blue
For a friend so true
Words seem so few
But, a song would do
'Happy Birthday to You...'
The Story Behind
This poem as you can see is dedicated to a dear friend of mine called Aatif. He is a very unique guy, one of his kind, and I mean that in the good sense. He is so quiet, so subdued, so shy, so nice and so helpful. Some may misunderstand and consider him to be too introverted or boring. But I connect very well with him. He is overly modest which I consider to be more of his vice than a virtue. He is baby-faced but is very mature and pure for his age. It?s ironic that his face maintains these two antithetical expressions simultaneously.
He is such a good listener. Sensitivity and patience are definitely his virtues. In fact, I'd like to compare him to a leaf of mimosa. From its outer appearance, it looks so still and normal like any other leaf but when you touch it, it immediately withdraws itself.
He is conservative, shy, polite and compassionate but at the same time has a sound, mature and practical outlook towards life. When you couple all of these emotions into one man, you get a gem of a person. He is a realistic and practical idealist. For his age, his refrain from any kind of vulgarity and his philosophy of simple living and high thinking is certainly no surprise for anyone who knows him well. That's Aatif for you: my friend. He is more than a friend actually. He is like my brother.
Aatif, this poem is my small token of appreciation for you on your 21st birthday. In this selfish and brutal world, a person like you is a rarity. God bless you. May all your dreams come true. You deserve every bit of them.
Regards,
Rohan
