A Song

There is a song I know
Sung a long time ago

The song that makes me sway
In a truly romantic way

I'm swinging in a whorl
And singing to my girl

That true lovers are few
Let me say I love you

The poor boy in the song
Waits for her so long

The water crosses the brim
But the girl doesn't wait for him

The girl's never his own
The boy dies all alone

The Story Behind

There is a filmi ghazal written by Bahadur Shah Zafar and sung by Mehdi Hassan, the great ghazal singer from Pakistan. Its called 'Baat Karni'. Its such a beautiful song. I love it. It has a very melodious mellow tune. I've fallen in love with the song and the voice in this song. And it makes me very romantic. I remember the girl I love and pretend to sing it out to her. Its a beautiful feeling.

The irony is that though the tune and the voice is so romantic, the boy doesn't get the girl in the end in the song. The girl leaves him. That is the beauty of a ghazal. This is exactly what I've tried to express through this poem.
